Yvonne Agius is an esteemed Elderof Kaurna and Narungga heritage who has a strong interest in, and commitmentto, promoting the protection and preservation of Aboriginal heritage; shewas taught by her mum and Elders and is passionate about continuing thislegacy.

After an extensive career in the public-sector andall areas of Aboriginal Affairs, spanning over 40 years Yvonne has now retired.Despite this fact, she has not slowed down and still offers her time to worthycauses and is well represented on a range of community groups.

She currently is the Dual-Chairperson of theAdelaide City Council Reconciliation Committee, a member of the State HeritageCommittee, and Chair of the Uniting Care Wesley Bowden Reconciliation Group.She has also held positions and volunteered her time on the board for Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement, theGranny’s Group and is a foster parent.

In 1993, she was awarded the National NAIDOCAboriginal Elder of the Year award for her unwavering commitment to thepreservation of Aboriginal heritage.
