Reconciliation SA believes that education is the key to increasing awareness of the issues that must be addressed as a matter of urgency in order to create better outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people.

A common statement during the course of conversation is that many Australians have not had any meaningful interactions with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders as a mechanism to better understand their culture. Reconciliation Week provides many opportunities for such interaction, and all Australians are encouraged to take advantage of or facilitate such opportunities. But just as importantly, Australians are encouraged to seek out information through websites, books, DVDs, venues such as the Museum and at events. Aboriginal people in South Australia make up less than 2% of the population - it's unreasonable to expect your meaningful experience will come from direct contact with an Aboriginal person.
